Matching Your Flatware to Your Fine China Dinnerware
Wondering what cutlery would look appropriate with your china pattern that you¡¯ve picked out. Follow these simple rules and hopefully it will make your decision to choosing your pattern much easier.
First of all, is the china that you have is it going to be for formal or for informal use. For informal patterns, like Denby's blue jetty, think of a flatware that is bulky in appearance. Flimsy looking cutlery just doesn't look right with informal patterns. Realize that you will be using this everyday and a nice heavy pattern will be a more of a practical use and is also less prone to damage then a flimsy piece.
If you have a textured pattern like Wedgewood's Jasper Conran, think of choosing a piece that is a simple, clean, untextured cutlery piece. This will accent your china more. But if you have plain china that is not textured, or doesn't have any designs, pick something with a bit more character.
As for the shape of the piece of cutlery that is a decision that depends on you. If your china has designs of circles or squares in the plate, pick a piece that matches them. This will complement your china!
Now for formal china basically the same rules apply, but now instead of picking something bulky pick a cutlery piece that looks more flimsy just like your bone china!
